UK-based AESseal has introduced a range of double and single mechanical seals with stationary floating faces.
The stationary seal face design is intended to accommodate angular shaft to housing misalignment, provide bi-directional flow for effective barrier heat removal on the dual seal, and include an anti-shattering seal face drive mechanism. The modular design aims to improve the customer service by reducing the number of components that have to be stocked. The seal range is covered by three international patents and patent-pending concepts. The DISP is a back-to-back dual seal, while the SISP is a single internal seal.
The seal range has been developed using 3D finite-element analysis (FEA) and computational fluid dynamics (CFD) software. The CFD analysis helped the company to assess and optimize the seal face heat removal efficiency of the barrier fluid flow path within the DISP seal. This analysis, backed by practical testing, facilitated the removal of standing vortices within the barrier chamber. The operating performance of the pumping ring has also been extensively investigated.
