✦ Synopsis

The addition of several alkylmagnesium halides to an a-allenyl ketone leads to the corresponding a,b-unsaturated ketones as single geometrical isomers. A p-chelation between the metal and the unsaturation is proposed to explain the steric outcome of this reaction.
