โœฆ Synopsis

Nambu PVA gel which is produced by repeated freezing and thawing of PVA solution has overcome almost all of the problems which present substances have: (1) It is close to human soft tissue in MRI parameten. (2) MRI pammeten ('H density, TI, T2) are adjustable to some extent. (3) It has appropriate physical characteristics. The important problem with PVA gel is long-term stability. It is assumed that this problem can be solved by its periodic calibration and replacement. 0 1986 A ~I I I ~C ~e s s Inc.

Most phantom media in current use exhibit T1 relaxation times that are significantly dependent on both temperature and operating frequency. This can introduce undesirable variability into relaxation measurements due to temperature fluctuations, and complicates direct comparison of imagers operating

## Abstract The authors present a unique application of polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) cryogel as an anthropomorphic, elastic, vascular phantom material that can be used in MR imaging. The composition consists of two nontoxic ingredients: water and PVA. The biomechanical and MR properties can be adjusted
