✦ Synopsis
The synthesis and characterization of some new phases in the title system which have a perovskite or closely related structure are reported. Two solid solutions with the same cationic stoichiometry and different oxygen content, Sr,~xCa,,,+,Bi,.,O,-, with 0 5 x 5 0.5 and S = 0 or 0.4-0.7, have been found. Both show monoclinic space groups but different structures and bismuth oxidation states, these latter close to + 5 (for 6 = 0) and + 4 (for 6 = 0.4-0.7). In the bismuth rich region a new Bi(II1) phase with the composition Bi,Sr,Ca,O,,,
showing also a monoclinic perovskite structure, is reported. Concerning lead phases, the solid solution SrPb,_,BixO,-, (0 5x 50.2) has been investigated by electron diffraction, thermal analysis and powder X-ray diffraction.
