It is demonstrated that the orbital selection rules set stringent structural requirements on the geometries of both the ET-TS and the twin SUB-TS, and determine all of their stereochemical informationstereospecificity. regiospecificity, orientational specificity-and the consequent activation barriers. Thus, the ET-TS is found to possess a robust stereochemistry that follows the maximum bonding principle allowed by the selection rule. The existence of kinetic isotope effects for the ET-TS may help establish or challenge the structured ET-TS presented here, and put it in perspective with the traditional notion of weak bonding in the outer sphere model.["-
