✦ Synopsis

Solvay started up its first plant for making epichlorhydrin (Epicerol) in Tavaux in France. The plant processes 10,000 tonne/y of glycerine obtained from rapeseed oil. Solvay plans to build another 100,000 tonne/y plant in Thailand which is scheduled to come on-stream in mid-2009. The process developed by Solvay is based on the direct synthesis of dichloropropanol from glycerine and hydrogen chloride. In a second stage the epichlorhydrin is created by the dehydrochlorination of dichloropropanol.

## Abstract A quality control scheme has been developed to achieve reproducible capillary GC characterization of crude oils and petroleum condensates. The method uses an internal standard to quantify the amount of non‐eluted material in the crude oil sample. Correlation between the gas chromatograp
