Before one offers new directions for vocational guidance and counseling, one must address the question, Why do we need new goals and strategies? What is the evidence to suggest that there is a problem with the old goals and approaches? It is the purpose of this paper to (I) address these questions particularly as they pertain to western cultures, and (2) suggest changes indicated for new goals and methods in vocational guidance and counseling.
