โœฆ Synopsis

According to the manufacturer, the new Variodrive motors offer lower cost and smoother control t h a n more c o m p l e x s t e p p e r motors, a n d longer lifetimes t h a n conventional brushed DC motors. They are ideal for high speed, long life and c o n t i n u o u s use applications where low cost is important.

According to Malcolm Stone, P r o d u c t Manager, m a n y des i g n e r s use s t e p p e r m o t o r s simply because they offer good control even though they are limited to relatively low speeds (below 3000 rpm). "With the new Variodrive motors, we can provide a highly cost effective alternative to stepper motors with linear speed control right up to 10 000 rpm" he said. "Also, the fully brushless design gives much longer lifetimes when compared to the conventional motors where brush wear and electrical interference are major drawbacks".

The new range includes both single a n d 3 -p h a s e v e r s i o n s offering accurate closed loop c o n t r o l u s i n g i n t e r n a l Hall effect p o s i t i o n sensors. The s i n g l e -p h a s e versions feature integrated control electronics while the 3-phase versions offer a choice of two external PAPST Variotronic 'plug and go' drive cards providing speed or voltage control.

The motors are available in a variety of sizes and power from 3 to 52 W.

A p p l i c a t i o n s for the new motors include linear and rotary motion control, p u m p s and c o m p r e s s o r s , m e d i c a l e q u i pm e n t (blood p u m p s etc) and a range of other equipment.
