Abstract

Novel functionalized 1,3‐dialkylimidazolinium salts (LHCl) as NHC precursors have been prepared and successfully applied in palladium‐catalyzed arylation of benzaldehydes. The ortho position of aromatic aldehydes was directly and selectively arylated with aryl chlorides in the presence of a catalytic system prepared in situ from Pd(OAc)~2~, 1,3‐dialkylimidazolinium chlorides (2a, 2b, 2c), and Cs~2~CO~3~.
