β¦ Synopsis
New free list launched
Black Hat in Las Vegas this month saw the launch of a new impartial vulnerability mailing list from VulnWatch.org.
The coverage will be "unbiased and responsible" and moderated by people with no commercial axe to grind.
In a statement, VulnWatch.org said, "Public vulnerability disclosure is a very important and controversial cornerstone of the computer security landscape."
Steve Manzuik, who runs the Win2KSecAdvice list, created the concept and enlisted the support of Rain Forest Puppy of Wiretrip and Chris Wysopal (Weld Pond) of @stake to serve as moderators for the list. Other high-profile security experts will join them.
It is hoped that such free disclosure will encourage an open source culture amongst the community.
