โฆ Synopsis
Dow Elastomers has unveiled plans for a new manufacturing facility for Ethylene Propylene Diene Methylene (EPDM) rubber, in Plaquemine, US.
The state-of-the-art manufacturing plant will deliver new grades of the company's EPDM in commercial quantities in early 1997. The company says investment in developing these new products and facilities represents the most significant investment in EPDM rubber in 25 years.
Based on its work to date, the company expects that these new products will provide higher value due to better molecular weight control, more uniform processing and more predictable end-use performance.
Dow's lnsite technology is an advanced application of metallocene chemistry that allows for a more controllable molecular design than was previously achievable. Metallocene chemistry yields long chain branching, a key factor in product efficiency and consistency. DuPont Dow believes this precise control will allow it to tailor EPDM products in ways that have not been possible before. In addition, the production process should result in an extremely clear resin, with very low catalyst residue.
