in 1997. He received the Young Scientist Award from the Pharmaceutical Society of Japan in 1997 for his study of the Development of Analytical Technologies for Human Genome Analysis. His major areas of interest are development of novel technology for the analysis of DNA, gene, and human genome using microchip, nanochip, capillary electrophoresis, capillary affinity gel electrophoresis, and MALDI-TOF mass spectroscopy. His recent research is toward the development of new technologies for large-scale DNA sequencing of human genome, polymorphism analysis for human genes, and DNA diagnosis for human diseases. He is the author or co-author of 220 publications, including research papers, proceedings, review articles, books, and book chapters. He has delivered more than 160 plenary and invited lectures at conferences, universities, and governmentalr industrial laboratories.
