β¦ Synopsis
This book is an in-depth look a t the theory, mathematics, and applications of compartmental models. The book is divided into four parts with 12 chapters.
Chapter 1 introduces compartmental models and their application in pharmacokinetics and other areas such as engineering and ecosystem modeling. The first part of the book (chapters 2-4) deals with linear time-invariant models. Chapter 2 introduces the basic equations and concepts used in the analysis of time-invariant systems. Chapters 3 and 4 deal with the theory, illustrated with examples, of one-, two-, three-, and multicompartmental models. Included in this analysis are the very general mammillary models (where loss occurs from compartments other than the central compartment), catenary chain models, and unilateral circulation
