✦ Synopsis

Structural characterization and thermal stability of a new conducting polymer containing phenyl substituted phosphorus atoms and acetylenic groups in the backbone are reported. The polymer is soluble in highly polar solvents. ~t n (by VPO) of the polymer is 2370. i.r. tH-NMR and 31p-NMR studies indicate a resonating structure having delocalized electrons involving the non-bonding electrons of phosphorus and the n-electrons of the ~C~C--group. Thermal studies indicate that the polymer is stable up to 200 ° in air and possibly having Tg of 155'.
