✦ Synopsis

The following coordination compounds of Co(l1) and Ni(H) with N,N-diethylurea (DEV) have been prepared: M(DEV)&, (X = Cl, Br, I, SCN for M = Co(II) and X = Cl, Br, I for M = Ni(II)), Ni(DEV)6 Xz with X = Br, I, CI04, CO(DEU)~(C~O~)~ and Ni (DEU),(NCS),. Electronic spectra, IR spectra (4000-250 cm-'), pammagnetic susceptibility and powder diffraction patterns were studied. The ligand is always bonded through the oxygen atom. Electronic and IR spectra have shown mixed octahedral-tetrahedral coordination for the metal in M(DEV)&, complexes that must be written as [MDElJ,][MX,]

and octahedral coordination in the remaining compounds.
