✦ Synopsis

Bodman for Energy Secretary

Samuel Bodman has been sworn in as Secretary of the US Department of Energy. He replaces Spencer Abraham, who resigned in November. "I look forward to working with the Department of Energy to advance critically important missions, including preserving America's pre-eminence in the physical sciences," he said. Bodman was an associate professor of chemical engineering at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, then chief executive officer of Cabot Corp. He has been deputy secretary for both commerce (2001)(2002)(2003) and the treasury (since 2003). President George W. Bush said Bodman will bring "a great talent for management and the precise thinking of an engineer".
