Some time ago while working on new derivatives of colchicine 293 we found that prolonged treatment of 4-formylcolchicine oxime (A, R =CHNOH) with boiling acetic anhydride resulted in partial racemisation of the main product, 4-cyanocolchicine (L, R =CN), and in formation of an unidentified secondary product, which was optically inactive and non-tropolonic in nature.
