β¦ Synopsis
Part Two of the Genesis saga begins where Part One ended. From inside the virtual world, John Neumannβs consciousness pushes through the bright ethereal barrier and into the real world. His memory regained, John recalls the beginning of the Genesis Project. From the start, his vice president Jack Lokitus and Judith Neumann, Johnβs wife, are against the project. John has spent one hundred billion dollars on it, putting the company near bankruptcy. The two lovers plot to discredit John as inept at the Board meeting so Lokitus can take over the company. When the coup fails, Lokitus and one-third of the Board members are fired. Lokitus goes insane with rage. That is when the killings start.
One by one, Board members die and John is framed for their deaths. John discovers Judithβs affair and her role in the murder plots and leaves her. Throughout the creation process, Lokitus continues to harass John and his crew. While visiting his adoptive father, Doc Lazlow, John has a brilliant idea for programming the Genesis Machineβthe last piece of the puzzle falls into place. Finally, John initiates the creation sequence, and the virtual world comes to life. Over the years, he inserts millions of people who are crippled or dying, giving them hope and a new lease on life.
A member of Johnβs inner circle betrays him and joins forces with Lokitus. They insert a virus into the Genesis Machine that corrupts not only the ethereal matrix on which the world is built but also the spirits of people John has inserted. In effect, Lokitus holds over a million lives hostage, demanding Neumann relinquish his multi-billion dollar empire. John refuses to give in. There is only one thing to do: reboot the computer. Before he can do that, John must get his people out, but the Genesis Machine is not programmed for thatβyet. To bring them home, the computer needs a blueprint to follow so that it can repair the damage done to the people. John submits his own soul, spirit, and body DNA to provide that pattern. It means he has to go into the virtual world in a different way than the rest. It is a risky plan that may cost him his life.
