✦ Synopsis

The esterification of phenylacetic acids and cis-oleic acid with primary and secondary simple alcohols, which also act as solvents using cerium(IV) ammonium nitrate (CAN) at room temperature gave phenylacetates and methyl (9Z)-octadec-9enoate. The reactions, which occur under relatively mild conditions, afforded the desired products in good to excellent yields.
