โฆ Synopsis
The ethanol extract sf the leaves sf Tabernaewmtana divaricafa provided a wdnor alkaloid. voaharine. possessing a novel skeletal system incorporating a Jqninolqne chromophore and a dimeric alkaloid, mwphyliine conslitIUedJ?ows highiy oxygenated vinc~e-tabersoninc epdde moieties.
A study of the alkaloidal constituents was carried out on Tabernaemontana divaricata (12) R. Br. et Schufr (Apocynaceae), a popular garden plant in Malaysia and India which is also found in other tropical countries. The ethanol extract of the leaves (double flower variety) collected in Petaling Jaya, Malaysia gave in addition to the major alkaloids voaphylline and N l-methylvoaphyllhie , minor amounts of two new alkaloids, voahatine 11 and conophylline 2. The mass-spectmm of voaharine showed a molecular ion at m/z
