β¦ Synopsis
The crystalline electric field (CEF) splitting of the Er 3Γ· 4f-shell in the high-T c superconductor ErBa2Cu307 doped with Zn and Ni as well as disordered by fast neutron irradiation has been studied by the inelastic neutron scattering technique. The results are used to derive information on the effective charge associated with the superconducting CuO 2 planes and support the idea of magnetic fluctuations to be the mechanism leading to the formation of a superconducting s*~te.
