β¦ Synopsis
The structure of the relaxor Pb(Zn 1/3 Nb 2/3 )O 3 (PZN) was analyzed by neutron powder diffraction method. PZN has a disordered perovskite structure at a sufficiently high temperature. With decreasing temperature, the rhombohedral phase appears at a temperature higher than that of the maximum dielectric constant and grows gradually in the nonpolar cubic matrix but does not prevail on the whole crystal. The fact supports the idea that heterophase fluctuation plays an important role in the dielectric behavior of relaxors.
