Elastic neutron ~ction

experiments were performed on YBa2(Cu~.y ZnyhO6+x powders. Nuclear structures have been refined using the RieWeld method on powders of compositions x=l and y ranging from 0.0I to 0.06. The results suggest a solubility limit of zinc in the coper planes at y,,0.04 and zinc may start to substttute for chain coper sites for higher y values. Magnetic structure of a y--0.02 and x=0.05 powder has been studied by neutron elasuc diffracUon. The antiferromagnetic structure is not affected by non-magnetic zinc atoms but the ordenng temperature ts strongly reduced.
