β¦ Synopsis
Numerical simulations are used to study neutral surface-layer flow which passes over isolated or widely separated strips of modified roughness embedded in an otherwise homogeneous surface.
Simple power laws are given for the maximum height and horizontal extent of turbulent momentum and horizontal mean velocity wakes with an assessment of the range of validity of this proposal. Furthermore, it is indicated, how vertical profiles of energy budget and horizontal mean velocity are distorted by a roughness strip.
