Growing evidence suggests a crucial involvement of extrinsic sensory neurons in the aberrant immune response in colitis. Activation of sensory neurons is accompanied by a release of the neuropeptides calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) and substance P (SP), which induce neurogenic inflammation ch
