as the most important elements in determining standards. DEC saw a continuing need for manufacturers to introduce features beyond standards to promote further development, but all three vendors stressed their commitment to implementing the standards as they emerged.
The Panel agreed that UNIX could not be ignored by the HEP community, and advised HEP to establish strong contacts with vendors and standards bodies to ensure future directions of developments were in HEP's interests.
