Abstract

Total resection of the brachial plexus of the regenerating pectoral fin in the fish Fundulus immediately affects protein and DNA synthesis. As in the case of nerve dependent synthesis in urodele limb regeneration, there is at first an outburst in macromolecular synthesis which peaks in the early hours after denervation. Then there is just as rapid a decline to a plateau value about 50–60% of its normal one at 24 to 48 hours after denervation. These data are discussed against the background of previous results from this laboratory on denervated newt limb regenerates.
