β¦ Synopsis
Our discussion is based on a 42-year-old man submitted to a medical examination for recurrent hematuria. On physical examination he was found to have a large, firm flank mass on the left side. His medical history was unremarkable. Laboratory tests were all within the normal range. He was first submitted to a computerized tomography (CT) scan of the abdomen, which revealed the presence of a solid, large inhomogeneus mass in the area of the left kidney. The lesion measured 30 Γ 20 Γ 15 cm, and was detached and compressed the nearby structures without infiltrating them. The other kidney appeared normal. There was no evidence of lymphonodal involvement (Fig. 1). X-ray films and CT scan of the chest were normal.
