โœฆ Synopsis

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is a major health problem, being the fifth most common cancer worldwide. 1 The incidence of HCC is increasing in Europe and the United States, 2 and it is currently the leading cause of death among patients with cirrhosis. 3 The advent of surveillance programs has led to a change in the stage of tumors detected. In more than half of the cases, these tumors will be suitable for potentially curative treatments, such as resection, transplantation, and percutaneous ablation. 4,5

Before the advent of transplantation, liver resection was the only method to achieve cure. However, resection is associated

1. The lack of whole-liver explant correlation has led to an overestimation of the sensitivity of imaging tests for the diagnosis of HCC in the radiological literature. 2. Ultrasound is insensitive for the diagnosis of HCC in the cirrhotic liver and should not be used for the detection of focal live
