β¦ Synopsis
Condensations of stabilized Wittig reagent 1 with a variety of substituted maleic anhydrides are discussed. It is proposed that the alkoyy substituents can act as Lewis bases towards the phosphorus of the ylid. Such conplexation, stabilizing the transition state for the reaction at the neighbouring carbonyl function, is an inportant factor in regioselectivity control.
