A class of optimal control problems for a damped distributed parameter system governed by a system of partial d@erential equations with side constraints (equality and/or inequality) is considered. Optimal control problems in structural mechanics are often formulated in this framework. A maximum prin

β¦ Synopsis
In this paper we propose deΓΏnitions for strong stabilizability and strong detectability of inΓΏnite-dimensional control systems. We show that these deΓΏnitions are appropriate by showing that they can be used to give necessary and su cient conditions for the strong stability of a system in terms of its input-output stability. As an application, we discuss the strong stability of the feedback interconnection of two strongly stabilizable and strongly detectable systems.

A simple sujicient stability criterionfor linear discrete systems obtained previously is proved to be necessary and sujicientfor the stability of a class of such systems with parametervariation.
Open-loop stability in the sense of bounded outputs for bounded inputs, and closed-loop asymptotic stability are considered for a class of distributed parameter systems. This class consists of systems whose dynamics can be represented by a transfer function which is the ratio of the multiple transfo
