✦ Synopsis

Near infrared absorption spectra (700-l 800 nm) of various lanthanide bis-phthalocyanines (PqLu, Pc2Yb, Pc*Tm, Pc*Dy) show two relatively intense bands (t,,, 5 lo4 M-' cm-'). The higher energy band is assigned to the les+alU transition of the radical macrocycle (PC-) while the lower energy one may be related to an intramolecular charge transfer from one macrocyclic ligand (Pc2-) to the other (PC-). The corresponding spectra for the reduced and oxidized species (Pc2Ln-, PczLn+) are in agreement with these assignments.
