β¦ Synopsis
Nb,Sn tape with upper critical field B,, of -25T at 4.2 K has been prepared by a new process using intermediate Nb,Sn, compound powder. L?,, is still increased by a small amount of Ti doping. The pre-reaction between Nb,Sn, and Nb powders, caused by mechanical mixing, promotes the synthesis of Al5 Nb,Sn in the subsequent heat treatment. The fabrication of tape specimens using a Ta sheath has been easily performed. The critical current density of Nb,Sn exceeds 3.3 x IO4 A cm-* at 20 T and 4.2 K. Present Nb,Sn specimens exhibit considerably larger normal state resistivity than bronze-processed Nb,Sn, which may enhance Bc2 in the specimens.
