Unexpectedly large photocurrents arising at polycrystalline silver electrodes, during cathodic reduction of carbon dioxide dissolved in various aqueous salt solutions, are reported. The quantum yields of the photocurrent are shown to be strongly affected by the surface roughness, reaching almost 1%
