✦ Synopsis
The nature and the thermal stability of oxygenated compounds created by oxidation with air or nitric acid of different carbons are studied, by chemical methods (functional analysis) and by high temperature evacuation. The results show that carbon dioxide evolved by high temperature arises from surface carboxylic functions while the carbon monoxide released during the same treatment is not ascribable to only one surface chemical structure.
