UK defense minister Lewis Moonie announces that a stake in the government-owned science and technology group QinetiQ is to be sold to a strategic partner. This marks the latest step towards stock market flotation and the complete transfer of QinetiQ into the private sector. The company was formed in July 2001 when the former Defence Evaluation and Research Agency (DERA) was split into two: QinetiQ and DSTL (Defence Science and Technology Laboratory), which is still part of the Ministry of Defence (MOD).
