β¦ Synopsis
The steroid samples (ca 5 mg) were each dissolved in CDCl, (40 1.1) containing Me$ as an internal reference and were recorded in 1.7 mm 0.d. micro-sample tubes. Chemical shifts were expressed in ppm relative to Me4% The I3C NMR spectra of each compound were obtained in both the proton noisedecoupled and SFORD modes.
All the C-6 methylated steroids examined were obtained from cholesterol (19), and their preparation and physical data have been reported elsewhere?

## Abstract The chemical shifts of the __N__βmethyl group in a series of 2β, 3β and 4βsubstituted __N__βmethylpyridinium salts have been measured in DMSO solution. The shift is primarily affected by resonance interaction between the substituent and aza group, and the results suggest that the resona
