The crystal structure of the title compound [alternatively called trichloro(1H-imidazole-N 3 )boron], C 3 H 4 N 2 -BCl 3 or C 3 H 4 BCl 3 N 2 , consists of a weakly hydrogen-bonded network of BCl 3 -imidazole adducts. The network formed may be viewed as a cross-linked hydrogen-bonded ribbon polymer.
