A new ferrocene derivative, N-ferrocenylcarbonyl-N'benzoylhydrazine (HEFB) and its transition metal complexes, [M(FB)] 2 -H20 (M = Mn n, Co II, Cu n, Zn", Cd n or Hg II) and M(HFB)2.nH20 (M = Mn n or Cd n) were prepared by reacting HEFB with the metal(II) acetates and characterized by elemental analyses, i.r. and u.v. spectroscopy and t.g.a. H2FB appears to act as a tetradentate ligand, coordinating to the metal through the nitrogen enolic oxygen atoms.
