Abstract
One unsaturated and three branched longโchain primary alcohols have been converted into Nโalkylโ2โpyrrolidones for investigation by mass spectrometry. The EI. mass spectra of these derivatives have been found to exhibit unambiguously the branching points and, albeit less clearly, the position of a double bond in the chain.
