In the original paper by Qiu, Yang, Liu & Zhu [__Acta Cryst.__ (2006), E**62**, m1320–m1231], the H atoms attached to N1 and N3 are positioned incorrectly. These have been deleted and the structure rerefined. The correct name of the structure is bis(2,4-dichlorobenzaldehyde 2-hydroxybenzoylhydrazona
N′-(2,4-Dichlorobenzylidene)benzohydrazide

✦ Synopsis
The asymmetric unit of the title compound, C 14 H 10 Cl 2 N 2 O, comprises two independent molecules, in which the dihedral angles between the terminal phenyl and substituted benzene rings are 21.28 (10) and 39.60 (12) . N-HÁ Á ÁO, C-HÁ Á ÁO and C-HÁ Á ÁCl hydrogen bonds stabilize the conformations of the molecules and also stabilize the structure in the solid state.

The components of the title solvate structure, C 14 H 12 N 2 O 2 Á-C 3 H 7 NO, are connected via N-HÁ Á ÁO, O-HÁ Á ÁN and O-HÁ Á ÁO hydrogen bonds, leading to a chain motif.
The title compound, C 17 H 18 N 2 O 2 , was synthesized by the reaction of 2-hydroxybenzoylhydrazine with 4-isopropylbenzaldehyde in ethanol. The molecule is non-planar and the dihedral angle between the two aromatic rings is 21.9 (2) . The crystal structure involves intermolecular O-HÁ Á ÁO and int

The vanillin residue makes dihedral angles of 4.84 (18) and 11.96 (7) with the planes of the butyl group and the terminal benzene ring, respectively. Intermolecular N-HÁ Á ÁO and C-HÁ Á ÁO hydrogen bonds help to consolidate the crystal packing.
