In the crystal structure of the title compound, C 12 H 10 Cl 2 N 2 O 2 S, there are two independent molecules in the asymmetric unit. Hydrogen bonds between NH 2 and SO 2 groups link molecules into layers, which interact with each other only by van der Waals forces

The title compound, C~12~H~10~Cl~2~N~2~O~2~S, was crystallized from a water–ethanol mixture. The dihedral angle between the two benzene rings is 64.86 (11)°. N—H...O and N—H...N hydrogen bonds between the NH~2~ and SO~2~ groups link molecules into layers.
