✦ Synopsis


The hfdssbauer quodrupoie interaction Q'o of the Fe '+ ion has been measured with 2% 3i. 57Fe in ZnSiF, * 6H,O, betwve-n 1.3 and 20°K. The sign of tiQ f< O_) .has been determined by using a single crystal absorber. These results are interpreted in terms of a triponal crystal txld potential that splits :he Fe*' orbit& into 3 ground state singlet and a first exited doublet whose distance is much smaller than that xported for FeSiFg*6H*O, in reasonable agrcement with previous EPR me~suiements.
