✦ Synopsis

The Mössbauer spectrum of ferrous zirconium double sulphate (\mathrm{FeZO}\left(\mathrm{SO}{4}\right){2} \cdot 8 \mathrm{H}_{2} \mathrm{O}) shows a quadrupole split doublet at room temperature. The results are discussed in terms of high-spin (\mathrm{Fe}) (II) in distorted actahedral symmetry.

The quadrupole splitting E was measured between 90 and 350 K for the compounds Fe(NHj;hX2 and Fe(NDs)& where X = (11, BF4 and SiF6. At 100 K the tetrafluoroborate.shows a relative isotope effect {E(deuterated} -E(hydrogenated)}/c(hydrogenated) of about 10%. In the case of the tetiafluoroborate, too,

The thermal decomposition of graphite ferric chloride produces graphite ferrous chloride with two quadrupole splittings for iron. One of these is the same as the single splitting in bulk FeCl,. The other is larger and has an intensity, relative to the normal splitting, which increases with flake thi
