Abstract

Studies are made of Mössbauer absorption of Fe^57^ in biotite. The asymmetric double peak spectrum is explained by quadrupole splitting; the energy levels are influenced by the presence of OH‐groups in the octahedral surrounding of the Fe‐ions.
