A murder in the English pub where you're staying? Definitely not the way to start a vacation!
What could be better than going to Northern England to visit the places where famous authors such as Bram Stoker, Beatrix Potter, and Catherine Cookson lived and worked? If you're an author it's a dream come true and something Kat had always wanted to do.

But when the popular pub employee, Sam, is murdered the night Kat and her friends arrive at the pub, Kat feels she has to help. And even though she'd promised her husband she wouldn't become involved in any more murder investigations, she can't turn her back on the genial uncle of the murdered pub employee, who has no idea what to do. She can see that he desperately needs her help.

She never expected the local police to use her mystery solving talents, but Sergeant Nick Black realizes he needs some help from a civilian when there's a stakeout. And Kat can't get rid of the thought that Bailey, Sam's Belgian Malinois dog, must have known who the murderer was, because he hadn't tried to protect Sam from the killer.

After all, he'd come to Sam's rescue before, so why hadn't he protected Sam the night the murder took place? Had he recognized the murderer? Was it someone Sam knew and was on friendly terms with?
