Spring has sprung in the woods around Big Wolf Lake, and Esme Gardner is headed there for a long weekend with her friends. She and Ethan plan to work on their blog—this time featuring Spring Cleaning in a Tiny House.
Right next door at Piney Woods Campground and Cabins, Esme’s best friend Charlotte is setting up a smaller version of her health food store, the Nutty Seed and is preparing for her grand opening. Meanwhile, for the annual Blutschlager Festival, a group of devoted enthusiasts, along with one intrepid newspaper reporter, make their pilgrimage to the area to watch for the emergence of the legendary phantom—a winged humanoid creature with a bat-like face and glowing red eyes—which is fabled to come out of hibernation every spring and roam the woods in search of food.
Esme and her friends take the tradition in stride, because the festival is all in good fun . . . until a very suspicious murder takes place.
