three following fields : (1) Particle separators at High Energy by B. W. Montague, (2) Semiconductor Spectrometers by G. T. Ewan, (3) Electromagnetic Separators for Laboratory Purposes by T. Alviiger and J. Uhler. The first of those is a review of the techniques of mass separation of welldefined moment,a particles, through the use of radio frequency fields phased in s~ich a way as to influence the particle trajectories according to their velocities. After an introductory section on the different t,ypes of separators, Montague goes into a detailed study of the accelerating and deflecting structures, and of their connections to the r.f. syst,em. The optics of r.f. separated beam, t,he engineering aspects of the construction of these in&uments, and their operation are discussed in the following chapt*ers. The article ends with a look at the future developments. This article is comprehensive and quite self contained. This is made possible by the fact that the field is relativelv new and u
