✦ Synopsis

A new variation of auto and cross auto covariance calculations (ACC) was introduced to describe interactions occurring in circular amino acid sequences. A multivariate data analysis was made on ACC variables and responses from biological assays of a-melanotropin analogues. It was then revealed that circular a-melanotropin analogues were superior to linear in prolonging skin darkening. For one of the best performing peptides, the prolonged activity was connected to three interactions that all involved the stereochemistry of one amino acid; the methylated 6 Trp.
