✦ Synopsis

Competing risks models can be used to compare the e!ect of risk factors for di!erent causes of death or subtypes of a disease. However, sometimes more than one outcome classi"cation is available and if two such classi"cations are correlated, one may speculate whether di!erences in the e!ect of a risk factor according to one classi"cation simply may be an e!ect of di!erences according to the other correlated classi"cation. We introduce in this paper the new concept of multivariate competing risks to test formally such a hypothesis.
